Guides for anyone about to move retired IT

Three guides, written for the person who has to make the decision and sign for it. They are free, they are not behind an email form, and one of them is built so it can rule us out.

The three guides

  • Recycle or sell

Which retired equipment holds resale value, which genuinely does not, and the cases where a recycler is the right answer and we are not. Read this one first if a free haul away is already booked.

    Read: recycle or sell
  • How to vet a hardware buyer

Six checks to run on any company asking you to release hardware, in the order that saves you the most time. Written so it can rule us out, and we show you where we fail it.

Read: how to vet a buyer
  • What your IT is worth

The six things that set the value of a used equipment lot, why completeness beats age, and how to get a real number for your actual list rather than a table.

Read: what your IT is worth
  • A dense pile of mixed circuit boards and electronic components

Retired equipment at the end of its working life

  • A plain white box truck parked against a building

Releasing a lot to a buyer you have not met

  • Closed laptops stacked in a tall column, seen edge on

Complete laptop fleets, priced as one lot

Why we publish these

We buy hardware. That gives us an obvious interest in you selling rather than recycling, and you should read everything here knowing it. So these guides are written to survive that reading. The recycling guide names the equipment that is genuinely worthless and the cases where a certified processor is the correct choice. The vetting guide is a checklist you can run on any company, including this one, and we publish our own answers to it including the ones that fail.

The alternative is the category norm: a vendor grading its own homework. We would rather you disqualify us early than ship to us on a claim you could not check. How to verify us is set out separately.

Nothing here is gated

There is no download form, no email wall and no newsletter. Every checklist, table and answer is on the page. If you want a copy, print the page. If you want a version to paste into an email to another buyer, the vetting guide carries one written for exactly that.

If you already know what you have

Skip the guides. Send the list and we will price the whole lot, or go straight to the situation that matches yours: closing an office, clearing racks, or overstock and customer returns. If you trade inventory for a living, the counterparty page is the short one.

Rough counts are fine. We come back inside 24 hours.
